September 25, 2012 Letter to Editor Valley News
Regarding John Gregg’s observation in his 9/18/12 column that my opponent Tyler Drummond is running an active campaign, he should be, considering that he has had all of the resources that the Republican Party can provide, while I refuse to even use the county phone for personal use. He has worked as the Chairman of the Northern Grafton Republican Party since September of 2011. What escapes young Mr. Drummond is the fact that municipal and county officials should focus on what is in the best interests of the people whom you serve rather than a politically ideology or party.
I took office after a political wave left another person who was tragically uninformed in charge of this very vital office. During my time here, I have cleaned up after the former register, putting us on track technologically, structurally, financially and cooperatively with the NH Register of Deeds Association and County Commissioners to strive to achieve uniform policy across the board. The former Register touted budget cuts that benefited the tax payer, but cost the office 3 year of software upgrades to achieve his budget cutting reputation, implemented a charge account program that was ill conceived and unstaffed. This office generates revenue; it needs to be properly functioning to flourish.
I have also negotiated cooperative arrangements with NH Department of Revenue Administration, saving them money and creating efficiencies to benefit the entire state of New Hampshire, while ensuring the protection of the very, valuable asset that is the data base of the Grafton County Registry of Deeds. I have vowed to always have the customer service that will assist those property owners lacking the skills to access the internet to search their records.
I have asked Mr. Drummund three times to publically debate me, and all three emails have gone unanswered. At the one candidate forum that we attended, he spoke only of his recent law degree. He has yet to take the bar and the number one rookie mistake that can be made here is the dispensing of legal opinion which opens the county and tax payer to liability. Haven’t we learned anything from the past 6 years? The choice is yours, Grafton County.
